Caleb Smith Expected To Make Another Rehab Start
5 years agoMiami Marlins starting pitcher Caleb Smith (hip) is expected to make at least one more minor league rehab start. The Marlins are just being cautious with the left-hander after he struck out 11 hitters and gave up two solo home runs in 4 1/3 innings for Double-A Jacksonville on Monday. If he gets through his next outing fine, Smith should return to the rotation next week. The 27-year-old was the club's best pitcher before his injury, posting a 3.41 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 82 strikeouts in 66 innings over 12 starts. The Fish may be mindful of his innings as we get into the second half, but he needs to be owned in all formats for his strikeout upside despite pitching for one of the worst teams in baseball.
