Buster Posey To Announce Retirement Thursday
3 years agoSan Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey, a seven-time All-Star, will announce his retirement on Thursday, according to sources. The 34-year-old will walk into the sunset after a decorated 12-year career that saw him win the 2010 National League Rookie of the Year, the 2012 NL MVP, four Silver Slugger awards, one Gold Glove and an NL batting title. Posey also helped San Francisco win the World Series in 2010, 2012 and 2014. After struggling at the plate in 2018 and 2019, Posey took the year off in 2020 and returned with a bang to the tune of a .304/.390/.499 slash line with 18 home runs and 56 RBI in 113 games in 2021. He was the fifth overall selection by the Giants out of Florida State in 2008, and he's expected to eventually be in the Hall of Fame. Posey will finish with a .302/.372/.460 line, 158 home runs, 729 RBI and 44.9 wins above replacement.
