Buster Posey Says He's On Schedule
6 years agoSan Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey (hip) said he has no concerns about his status for Opening Day and is on track after undergoing serious hip surgery in August. He's hoping a healthier lower half will help his power return in 2019. Posey had his hip impingement and torn labrum fixed, as well as microfracture to promote healing. The veteran backstop played just 105 games but still hit .284 and had a .359 on-base percentage, which ranked second among catchers. He is expected to be ready for the first full-squad workout this spring, but the Giants will likely ease him into workouts and games. He'll also likely have his playing time limited early in the regular season to ensure the team can keep him healthy for the whole year. Posey is still one of the best hitting catchers in the majors, but his body is starting to break down and he's no longer an elite fantasy backstop.
