Miami Marlins third baseman/outfielder Brian Anderson stated that he wants to be a Marlin long term. Anderson said he, "loves the direction and message led by CEO Derek Jeter." The 27-year-old is under team control until 2023 and will reach arbitration for the first time after this season. He hit .261/.342/.468 last season while playing strong defense and putting up 3.1 fWAR. That makes two strong seasons in a row after 2018's 3.4 fWAR performance. The Marlins should look into signing Anderson long-term and building the infield around him and some of their higher-level prospects like Jazz Chisholm. Anderson makes for a solid, still somewhat under-the-radar fantasy option.--David A Marcillo - RotoBaller

The Atlanta Braves signed free-agent infielder Brian Anderson to a major-league deal on Tuesday, and he will be active for Tuesday's contest against the Red Sox in Boston. To make room on the team's 40-man roster, the Braves moved left-handed reliever Tyler Matzek (elbow) to the 60-day injured list. Anderson became a free agent when he opted out of his minor-league deal with the Seattle Mariners over the weekend and will now return to the National League East. The 31-year-old third baseman will operate as infield depth for Atlanta while providing an experienced right-handed bat off the bench. In 96 games for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2023, he hit .226 (72-for-318) with nine homers and 40 RBI. The former third-rounder by the Marlins in 2014 out of Arkansas has a career .252/.336/.404 slash line with 66 homers and 273 RBI in 627 games over seven seasons in the majors.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Seattle Mariners released third baseman Brian Anderson on Tuesday. The 30-year-old signed a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training this off-season in hopes that he could win a platoon/backup role. While he did slash .250/.344/.536 in 28 Cactus League at-bats, it wasn't enough to earn a spot. Injuries have hindered Anderson's career, and he hasn't hit above .250 since 2020. At this point, he may try to find another team to join where he could have a clearer path to a role.--Connelly Doan - RotoBaller

The Seattle Mariners signed free-agent infielder Brian Anderson and right-hander Trevor Kelley to minor-league deals on Friday, according to sources. Both players will receive invites to major-league spring training. The 30-year-old Anderson really struggled in 96 games for the Milwaukee Brewers last year, slashing .226/.310/.368 with nine home runs, 40 RBI and 38 runs scored in 361 trips to the plate before being released after the season. If he makes Seattle's roster, he'll probably serve in a backup or platoon role at third base, at best, with Luis Urias. Kelley, 31, will be looking to serve as relief depth for the Mariners, but he's unlikely to make the big-league roster out of camp. Kelley has a career 6.75 ERA and 1.56 WHIP with 45 strikeouts in 50 2/3 innings in four major-league seasons.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Milwaukee Brewers reinstated outfielder Garrett Mitchell (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list on Thursday and designated infielder/outfielder Brian Anderson for assignment in a corresponding move. Mitchell is starting in center field and batting ninth on Thursday against St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Dakota Hudson. Mitchell has been out since April 18 due to a shoulder injury that he had surgery on, so fantasy managers can't really expect much through the end of the regular season on Sunday. But the 25-year-old gives Milwaukee another outfield option as they get ready for the playoffs. Anderson had seen his playing time dip dramatically recently and was hitting only .226/.310/.368 on the season with nine home runs and 40 RBI in 318 at-bats.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
