Brett Hundley Gets Nod Over DeShone Kizer
6 years agoIn the first preseason game for the Green Bay Packers, it was the incumbent quarterback Brett Hundley who got the start over the recently acquired Deshone Kizer. The first-string quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, sat out the game as he has done in the past. It was presumed that Kizer, who started as a rookie last year for the Browns, was brought into Green Bay to back up Rodgers. Hundley struggled in that role last year when Rodgers went down with a broken collarbone. So it is somewhat of a surprise not only that Hundley is still on the team but also started ahead of Kizer against the Titans on Thursday. Both Hundley and Kizer played well in the game. Hundley went 9-for-14 passing with 108 yards with a touchdown and an interception. The interception was completely the result of blown blocking. Regardless of who wins the back-up spot, we learned last year that virtually no quarterback other than Rodgers can be successful in Green Bay’s offensive scheme. Both Hundley and Kizer should be avoided in all circumstances.
