Brett Gardner To Lose Playing Time?
5 years agoNew York Yankees first baseman Edwin Encarnacion will become the team's primary designated hitter after the club acquired him over the weekend, according to manager Aaron Boone. Boone also said that Encarnacion is "capable" of playing first base. Boone still expects outfielder Brett Gardner "to play a lot" when Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge are back with the team. The Yanks will likely try to find a way to get Gardner regular at-bats, but the bottom line is there isn't a starting role for him when all of the team's power bats are healthy, especially with Encarnacion now in the fold. Gardner does have a nice 11 homers, 43 runs, 31 RBI and six stolen bases, but he's also hitting .233 (54-for-232).
