Brett Baty Dealing With Hamstring Soreness
Brett Baty (hamstring) missed Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks due to hamstring soreness. According to Mets manager Buck Showalter, Baty might be available off the bench. The 23-year-old is considered day-to-day. His next chance to return to the lineup is Friday against the Padres. Baty is slashing .250/.319/.363 with five home runs, 21 RBI, and two stolen bases across 226 plate appearances in 2023. Luis Guillorme is batting ninth and will handle third base duties in Thursday's game. Guillorme should see an uptick in playing time while Baty is sidelined but is not on the fantasy radar after hitting .244 with a homer and seven RBI over 41 games in 2023.

Brett Baty On The Bench Against Southpaw
Brett Baty will return to the bench with a left-hander on the mound in Sunday's series finale against the visiting Chicago Cubs at Citi Field. Mark Vientos is starting at the hot corner and is hitting cleanup against Cubs southpaw Matthew Boyd. Baty will take a seat after starting each of the last three games and going 4-for-12 with three home runs and six RBI. The 25-year-old left-handed hitter has struggled at the plate in the big leagues since his debut back in 2022, but he appears to be coming around of late and hit two homers and drove in all five of the team's runs on Saturday. If Baty continues to swing a hot bat, Vientos could find himself on the bench more often despite a breakout campaign in 2024. Baty is still hitting only .227 (15-for-66) on the season with four home runs, 10 RBI, a steal and seven runs scored in 22 games played.

Brett Baty Hits A Pair Of Home Runs, Drives In Five In Loss
Brett Baty belted a pair of home runs in a 2-for-5 day at the plate during Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Cubs. The first home run was a three-run shot, and the second was a two-run blast, giving him five RBI and two runs scored in the contest. It was the second consecutive game with a home run for the former first-round draft pick and the fourth of the season. Baty began the year with the Mets but was sent to Triple-A in late April, however, he was recalled this past Monday. After an 0-for-4 in his first game back, Baty is 4-for-8 with three home runs and six RBI in the last two games. Perhaps the 25-year-old goes on an offensive binge here, but caution is warranted as the left-handed slugger has been unable to maintain success at the major league level with a career .216/.280/.343 slash line over 672 plate appearances. He's eligible at both 2B and 3B on Yahoo! and available in most leagues for those willing to test their luck.

Mets Recall Brett Baty From Triple-A
Brett Baty from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday before their series opener in the desert against the hosting Arizona Diamondbacks. The Mets optioned Baty to Syracuse on April 24, but only because of a roster crunch upon Jeff McNeil's return from the injured list. The 25-year-old had been dealing with a sore right toe in recent days, but it wasn't severe enough to prevent his call-up. Baty had three hits in his 10 at-bats with Syracuse and will return to a .204/.246/.352 slash line in the big leagues with a homer, four RBI, four runs scored and a stolen base. The former top prospect just hasn't been able to put it all together at the big-league level since debuting in 2022, and he'll serve as infield depth at both second and third base behind McNeill and Mark Vientos. Baty can be ignored in most mixed fantasy leagues.

Brett Baty Optioned To Minors
Brett Baty has been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday. Well, this was expected with fellow infielder Jeff McNeil (oblique) being activated from the 10-day injured list. Someone needed to be sent down and Baty seemed like the good choice considering his struggles. So far, Baty is slashing .205/.246/.352 with one home run, four RBI, and a 19/3 K/BB ratio this season. The Mets are hopeful that Baty can still be an everyday contributor at some point. For now, Baty will head back to the minors to get everyday at-bats in Triple-A.
