Braves Sign Drew Smyly To One-Year Deal
4 years agoThe Atlanta Braves signed left-hander Drew Smyly to a one-year, $11 million deal on Monday. The 31-year-old went 0-1 with a 3.42 ERA in five starts and two relief outings for the Giants last season after San Francisco signed him to a one-year deal in January. He was released by the Rangers after going 4-7 with a 6.24 ERA in 21 starts and four relief appearances in 2019. Smyly underwent Tommy John surgery in 2017 and spent most of the 2018 season recovering. The southpaw will provide rotation depth behind youngsters Max Fried, Ian Anderson and Mike Soroka, who missed most of 2020 with a torn Achilles. If he makes any starts for the Braves, Smyly will strictly be a DFS streamer based on the matchup.
