Brandon Woodruff Pitches Well But Takes Loss
3 years agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff dropped to 7-5 after he was on the losing side of Sunday's 3-1 battle to the White Sox. He logged seven innings and gave up three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out nine in the series finale.
Woodruff has now gone winless in four consecutive starts, but his 3.24 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 9.7 K/9 over that stretch gives fantasy managers little reason to panic. He was outdueled Sunday by Lance Lynn, who threw six innings of one-run ball before turning the game over to hard-throwing relievers Michael Kopech and Liam Hendriks for the final three frames. With Milwaukee expected to keep its six-man rotation intact until further notice, Woodruff is unlikely to make his next start until Aug. 1 in Atlanta. He's going to start catching wins eventually, and his underlying statistics still are elite.
