6 years agoNew York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo (neck) was scratched from the lineup at Triple-A Syracuse on Friday due to neck soreness. It's not good news, as Nimmo is rehabbing from a bulging cervical disc and was getting closer to a return to the big leagues. Nimmo has been on the injured list since May 20 but has been feeling the effects of his neck injury ever since he crashed into an outfield wall in mid-April. His numbers have suffered as a result and he's batting just .200/.344/.323 on the year with three homers, 14 RBI and one steal. It's unclear how much longer Nimmo will remain out, but he belongs on waiver wires in mixed leagues for now.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

2 weeks agoNew York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo (knee) is expected to be ready in time to play on Opening Day. The veteran outfielder has been dealing with a lingering knee issue, but recently received a gel injection, which appears to be helping him. Nimmo believes he'll be ready to play designated hitter, but is unsure if he's ready for the outfield yet. Nimmo continued by saying he still feels soreness in his knee and is about 80 percent healthy right now. Fantasy managers should expect to have Nimmo as part of their lineup on Opening Day, but should check back in case of a setback.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

2 weeks agoNew York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo (knee) is serving as the designated hitter and is in the two-hole for Thursday's Grapefruit League contest versus the Boston Red Sox. Nimmo appears to be past his plantar-fasciitis issues from last year, but he was brought along slowly early in camp and then dealt with right-knee soreness. As a result, this is the 31-year-old veteran's second spring training game. Nimmo still has several weeks to get ready for Opening Day and has time to work his way back onto the field in the outfield. The former first-rounder has dealt with his fair share of injuries in recent seasons, but he's remarkably still managed to play in at least 151 games in each of the last three years. He also had career-highs in home runs (23), RBI (90) and steals (15) while scoring 88 runs in 2024. The injuries are a bit worrisome, but Nimmo is still a top-50 fantasy outfielder in this lineup.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

3 weeks agoNew York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo (knee) resumed baseball activities on Monday, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. The manager noted that Nimmo could return to action "pretty soon." Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status but it appears Nimmo is nearing a return to the Grapefruit League. The 31-year-old has dealt with soreness in his knee which has kept him sidelined for the time being. Nimmo has also had a lingering plantar fasciitis issue in his left foot. Last season, Nimmo held a .224/.327/.399 slash line with 23 home runs and 15 stolen bases. He generated a strong .335 xwOBA and drew walks at a high 11.6 percent rate. When he is cleared to return, fantasy managers should expect Nimmo to bat behind Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor, which should provide him with elite RBI opportunities.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

3 weeks agoNew York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo (knee) appears to have avoided a major injury, but has been shut down from baseball activities for a few days. Nimmo has been dealing with a lingering knee issue throughout camp. He underwent an MRI earlier in the week that didn't reveal any structural damage. The 31-year-old did receive a gel injection into his right knee on Saturday. The hope is that Nimmo can ramp up his activities after a few days of rest. Mets' manager Carlos Mendoza said he expects Nimmo to be ready for Opening Day. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor the situation, but they shouldn't be too concerned about this being a long term issue.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller
