Brandon Montour Signs Extension With Panthers
4 years agoBrandon Montour inked a three-year contract with the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, which carries a $3.5 million AAV. The 27-year-old defenseman was set to become an unrestricted free agent. The former second-round draft pick appeared to be headed for great things when he scored 42 points in his second NHL season with the Anaheim Ducks but he then slipped both offensively and defensively and ended up with the Buffalo Sabres for parts of three seasons. He was acquired by Florida towards the end of the 2020-21 season and scored two goals and recorded four points in 12 games. He also improved defensively with an 8 +/-. He was held scoreless in six playoff games. Montour isn't much of a fantasy option unless he rediscovers his early-career form.

Brandon Montour Returns To Kraken Lineup
4 months agoSeattle Kraken defenseman Brandon Montour (personal) will be back on the ice Saturday versus Ottawa. He skipped Thursday's matchup against Toronto to welcome a second child to his family. Montour crushed the Canadiens in his last outing with a four-point effort, which included his first career hat trick. He has tallied nine points (four goals, five assists) in 10 games overall this season. Cale Fleury made his season debut on Thursday and will likely have to make way for Montour on Saturday. The former Florida Panther will rejoin the top-four group at the back and is also set to return to the first power-play unit, bumping Ryker Evans to the second.

Brandon Montour Will Miss Thursday's Game
5 months agoSeattle Kraken defenseman Brandon Montour (personal) will not be in the lineup against Toronto on Thursday. Montour returned to Seattle due to the birth of his second child. The talented blue-liner is fresh off his first career hat trick and a four-point game. Ryker Evans is set to play a larger role at the back on Thursday and should replace Montour on the first power-play unit. The 22-year-old has been effective offensively for the team, recording six points (three goals, three assists) in 10 games.

Brandon Montour Scores First Career Hat Trick
5 months agoSeattle Kraken defenseman Brandon Montour crushed it against Montreal on Tuesday night, finishing an 8-2 road win with his first career hat trick and four points. He set a new franchise record for most points scored by a defenseman in a single game. Three of his points, including two goals, came on the power play for Montour, who's only the eighth blue-liner in the past 40 years to score a natural hat trick. Montour hasn't quite found his stride with his new team, but the big performance has provided a nice boost for his stat line. The 30-year-old has scored nine points (four goals, five assists) in 10 games with 33 shots, 11 blocks, and 19 hits.

Kraken Grab Brandon Montour With Seven-Year Deal
8 months agoThe Seattle Kraken have made a big splash in NHL free agency, signing defenseman Brandon Montour to a seven-year, $7.14 Million AAV deal. The 30-year-old earned this contract a few years ago when he obliterated his career highs in points, goals, and assists, posting 73 points (16 goals, 57 assists) in 80 games with the Florida Panthers in 2022-23. He wasn't as good last year, but still collected 33 points in 66 games. The Kraken will hope that he returns to his form from two years ago, but either way he should be a solid top-four option and will challenge Vince Dunn for powerplay time. It will be hard to navigate this competition for fantasy purposes, but both Dunn and Montour should be drafted in the 125-150 range.
