Brandon McCarthy Guts Out Nearly Six Innings In Loss

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy, who has a ... let's say... tenuous grasp on his spot in the rotation, began Friday night's game in less than stellar fashion. He gave up two runs, but then kept San Diego off the board until he departed in the sixth, having gone 5 2/3 frames while striking out four and walking one. He wasn't around then, as the bullpen gave up a five-spot in the seventh and Atlanta subsequently lost, 9-3. McCarthy is still a bit of a liability now, with his 4.89 ERA. Stay away from him until he can get it below 4.00.
