Brandon Belt Placed On Injured List With Fractured Thumb
3 years agoThe San Francisco Giants placed first baseman Brandon Belt (thumb) on the 10-day injured list prior to Tuesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was diagnosed with a left thumb fracture. The move is retroactive to September 27. He won't be eligible to return until a few games into the NLDS. The team recalled shortstop Thairo Estrada from Triple-A to fill his roster spot. Belt had the best year of his career this year by most measures, despite playing in only 97 games. He hit a career-high 29 home runs while tallying 59 RBI and 65 runs and slashing .274/.378/.597. LaMonte Wade Jr. covered first base on Tuesday and should see some additional starts there, but Darin Ruf (oblique), who is expected to be activated soon, will see time at first as well.
