Brad Boxberger Takes The Loss
6 years agoKansas City Royals relief pitcher Brad Boxberger was given the chance to nail down the save on Thursday against the Mariners, but as with all of KC's team right now, Boxberger was hit by misfortune. Boxberger didn't do himself any favors by allowing back-to-back singles with one out, but after a strikeout and getting two quick strikes on Mitch Haniger, it looked like the Royals pretty much had it in the bag. When Haniger floated a fly ball out to center, Billy Hamilton quickly had a bead on it and everyone began to quietly celebrate. Instead, the wind swirled the ball around, Hamilton had to make a last-second leap to try to corral it, it bounced off the top of his glove, he fell to the ground in pain (sprained knee), and both runs came in to score as Haniger had an easy triple. KC would go on to lose in 10 innings. Boxberger is simply another under-performing Royal reliever as he's carrying a 9.95 ERA and has allowed earned runs in four of his seven outings so far. He may be a candidate for saves, but in the current situation, that still doesn't make him desirable in fantasy.
