4 years agoBoston Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec struck out four times in five at-bats Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Dalbec had been hot of late, with a 1.009 OPS over the last seven games even after his forgettable day. Despite the recent success, it's still strikeouts that will cause Dalbec's fans and fantasy managers frustration, as he's gone down on strikes in 80 of his 201 at-bats this season. There's almost no way to maintain success (or fantasy value) at that rate.--Doug Goldring

10 months agoBobby Dalbec will start for the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, but not at his usual first base or designated hitter role. Instead, Dalbec will start in right field for the first time in his Major League Baseball career in place of the injured Wilyer Abreu (ankle) and will bat seventh in the order. Dalbec is slashing .132/.207/.170 with four RBI and three runs scored in 23 games. He has played the position before, having played 15 games in Triple-A in right field. The power potential for Dalbec is always there, but fantasy managers are best leaving him out of their lineup.--Brandon Williams - RotoBaller

12 months agoBoston Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec has been optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday. The former top prospect has struggled during his time with the big league club. So far this season, Dalbec was limited to nine at-bats in which he struck out during six of those. Possibly, Dalbec returns to the MLB if he has a strong showing in the minors. Fantasy managers can continue ignoring Dalbec until further notice.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

1 year agoAfter the Boston Red Sox signed veteran first baseman C.J. Cron to a minor-league deal this week, first baseman Bobby Dalbec's spot on the roster suddenly is insecure. The 34-year-old Cron has 187 home runs in 10 career major-league seasons. Dalbec spent most of last year toiling at Triple-A Worcester and he still has a minor-league option remaining. Pablo Reyes can also play all over the infield, including at first base, where he is getting more work in spring training, so he has much more versatility than Dalbec. Triston Casas is Boston's starting first baseman after he broke out offensively in 2023. The 28-year-old Dalbec was once a former top prospect in Boston's system, but it looks like they're moving on.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

1 year agoBoston Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec is taking reps with the outfielders in spring training on Friday. Dalbec is trying to increase his versatility heading into the 2024 regular season. Perhaps it will help him see the field more often after he played in only 21 games for Boston in his fourth year in the majors in 2023. Dalbec went 10-for-49 (.204) with a homer and six runs scored, but he looked much better at Triple-A Worcester, hitting 33 home runs and stealing 17 bases. The 28-year-old former top prospect will back up Triston Casas at first base and will primarily be a bench bat for the Red Sox at the major-league level. There's still power in Dalbec's bat, but his high strikeout rate and inability to hit righties has kept him from a starting role.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
