Blue Jays Sign Freddy Galvis
6 years agoThe Toronto Blue Jays signed free-agent shortstop Freddy Galvis to a one-year, $4 million deal with a team option for 2020 on Tuesday. In a corresponding move, the team designated relief pitcher Danny Barnes for assignment. Galvis is more of a glove-first player and he'll provide insurance in case Lourdes Gurriel Jr. isn't up to the task as the starter at the 6 this year. Galvis, 29, hit .248/.299/.380 with 13 home runs, 62 runs, 67 RBI and eight steals in 162 games for the Padres in his lone season there. Perhaps his greatest asset to a team is his health, as he's played back-to-back full seasons of 162 games and has played in 151-plus games each of the last four seasons.
