Blue Jays Release Troy Tulowitzki
6 years agoThe Toronto Blue Jays released shortstop Troy Tulowitzki on Tuesday. The oft-injured former Rockies star is still guaranteed $38 million on his contract, so the Blue Jays are biting the bullet on this one. Tulo wasn't guaranteed a starting role in 2019, even if he proved healthy. Lourdes Gurriel is expected to be the starting shortstop next year. Tulowitzki was one of the better power-hitting shortstops in his prime, but he hasn't played since 2017 and isn't a lock to stay healthy in 2019. He'll probably resurface elsewhere, but he might have to change positions and won't be worth drafting in mixed leagues.
