Ben Rice Goes Yard After Promotion To Triple-A
6 months agoAfter being promoted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre earlier in the day, New York Yankees catcher/first base prospect Ben Rice made an impression in his debut. Rice went 2-for-4 in his new uniform with two runs, two RBI and a home run. Rice, the club's No. 12 prospect per MLB Pipeline, has been having an impressive season and has hit .261 with 12 homers, 26 RBI and eight stolen bases in 180 at-bats for Double-A Somerset. Rice has generally been older for most levels he has been in, but he has shown success from the left side of the plate with good bat speed and strength. Rice will need to figure out left-handed pitching before making the next step and also needs to find a position, as he's not the best defender at catcher or first base. There is a chance he can make his big-league debut in 2024, but he is more of a name for dynasty managers for now.
