Baker Mayfield's Extension Could Come This Summer
4 years agoThe agents for Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield don't plan to drag out a contract extension with their client and aren't opposed to getting something done this summer. "We pretty much know what's coming on down the road and what's been done. We don't have any particular reluctance about doing a deal. But I think something will be done this summer," Jack Mills said. "As far as trying to get a deal done, I don't know if it'll get done. It's something that would be pretty much in the team's control." Even though Mayfield's fifth-year option for the 2022 season was picked up and he said he's "in no rush" for an extension, it sounds like his agents would rather get something done before the 2021 season. The preferred length of the deal is for four years, but the two sides haven't discussed that yet. The Browns might want to get out ahead of extensions for Bills QB Josh Allen and Ravens QB Lamar Jackson. Regardless of whether he has a new extension in 2021, Mayfield will be more of a QB2 in Cleveland's run-first offense.
