Austin Barnes Starting Tuesday, Kike Hernandez Bats Cleanup
7 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers catcher Austin Barnes is starting behind the dish for the ball club and batting eighth on Tuesday. Kike Hernandez is playing at second and batting cleanup with lefty Sean Manaea on the mound for the Athletics. Barnes has mostly pinch hit in 2018 and has 12 at-bats. He's gotten three hits and two walks to show for it. Coming into the season, it was widely assumed that he'd be splitting catching duties with Yasmani Grandal, but Grandal has gotten most of the starts so far. Hernandez has actually hit righties better this year, but that's largely because no one on the Dodgers has hit much of anything. Both were considered deep league sleepers in the offseason and are worth monitoring, but with so many injuries and limited bench spots, they're unrosterable at this point.
