Athletics Want To Keep Jed Lowrie
6 years agoThe Oakland Athletics want to re-sign impending free-agent second baseman Jed Lowrie and are expected to make him an offer, according to sources. The 35-year-old was an All-Star and hit a career-high 23 home runs last season. He has averaged 155 games and an .804 OPS the last two years. If the A's do indeed keep Lowrie, it'd be bad news for middle infield prospect Franklin Barreto, who would be blocked by Lowrie and Marcus Semien again. Lowrie also posted a career-high 99 RBI and hit .267/.353/.448 in 157 games in 2018. While he'll be hard-pressed to approach those lofty numbers again, especially if he remains in hitter-friendly Oakland, he should remain a solid middle infield option in deep mixed leagues at the very least.
