A's Reach Extensions With Bob Melvin, Billy Beane, David Forst
6 years agoThe Oakland Athletics gave multi-year contract extensions to vice president of baseball operations Billy Beane, general manager David Forst and manager Bob Melvin on Monday. Melvin's deal will run through the 2021 season and will make him one of the top five highest paid managers at roughly $3.5 million per year. Forst's extension is for four years and will take him through 2023. Considering Beane's ownership stake in the team, the expectation is that his long-term involvement will extend indefinitely. The A's surprised with 97 wins this year, their most since 2002, and they made the playoffs for the first time since 2014 after three straight last-place finishes. Melvin is a front-runner to win the Manager of the Year award in the American League. He has a 634-599 record with Oakland in seven-plus seasons.
