A's Call Up Reliever Yacksel Rios
1 year agoThe Oakland Athletics selected the contract of right-hander Yacksel Rios from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday and optioned right-hander Chad Smith to Las Vegas in a corresponding move. To make room on the 40-man roster, the team moved right-hander Drew Rucinski (illness, knee) to the 60-day injured list. Rios will immediately join the A's big-league roster after the club landed him in a trade from the Atlanta Braves on Sunday. He has not pitched in the big leagues since 2021, when he went a combined 3-0 with a 4.28 ERA (4.89 FIP) with a 1.24 WHIP and 20.2% strikeout rate in 27 1/3 relief innings for the Mariners and Red Sox. The 29-year-old had posted a 2.49 ERA and 0.88 WHIP in 25 1/3 innings for Triple-A Gwinnett in 2023, but he won't really be on the fantasy radar.
