Aroldis Chapman Cracks Tooth During Fall
2 years agoKansas City Royals relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman (lip, tooth) fell at his house on Saturday night and cracked a tooth and split his lip open, which required stitches. He is still pretty swollen, but he'll attempt to play catch on Monday while throwing a bullpen session on Tuesday. Chapman said he's feeling OK and hopes to get into a Cactus League game soon. The 35-year-old southpaw reliever shouldn't miss much time and isn't in danger of missing Opening Day. However, it's just another setback for Chapman, who had a career-worst 4.46 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 36 1/3 innings in his final year with the New York Yankees in 2022. He eventually lost the closing gig in the Bronx to Clay Holmes, and there's no guarantee he'll be the Royals' primary closer this year over Scott Barlow.
