Aroldis Chapman Could Close Some Games
1 year agoTexas Rangers left-handed reliever Aroldis Chapman could be called on to close out some games after the team acquired him in a recent trade from the Kansas City Royals. Chapman hasn't been used in a save situation yet in his two appearances for the Rangers, but he could be called upon to face "pockets" of hitters in the future in save chances, most likely if the club is facing a stretch of left-handed hitters in the ninth inning. The 35-year-old southpaw pitched in the seventh and eighth innings in his two relief appearances for the Rangers so far earlier this week and threw two scoreless frames while walking none and striking out three. Manager Bruce Bochy said the Rangers aren't considering going away from closer William Smith despite his second blown save of the year this week. However, fantasy managers shouldn't be surprised if Chapman gets the occasional save chance in his new digs.
