Antonio Senzatela Sharp In Spring Stint
5 years agoColorado Rockies pitcher Antonio Senzatela looked good on Friday night as he struck out four in three innings of work. Most impressive were his displays with his newly developed curveball, a pitch he's been trying to improve for years. After bursting onto the scene in 2017 with some promising numbers, the young righty has struggled to stick in the majors since then. His fall has been particularly evident in his falling strikeout rate, punching out just 5.49 hitters per nine innings last season at the major league level and an even worse 3.15 in Triple-A. The high altitude of Colorado's home stadium is usually considered the culprit for such struggles, but Senzatela's been particularly prone to the problem due to below-average offspeed pitches. If he's been able to develop better versions of those this offseason, he could turn into a real asset at the age of 25.
