Anthony Bender Earns His First Save
3 years agoMiami Marlins rookie relief pitcher Anthony Bender earned his first big league save in Monday's 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Bender came in for the ninth inning with a one-run lead and only allowed a runner to reach base due to an error by the third baseman. Bender struck out one and lowered his ERA to 0.68. He's the best reliever in the Marlins bullpen, but he was only closing today because all three of Don Mattingly's usual late inning relievers (Anthony Bass, Dylan Floro, and Yimi Garcia) were unavailable. Bender should be the closer at some point this season, but it might take the trade deadline or a Mattingly firing for that to happen.
