Anthony Bass Likely The Marlins Closer
4 years agoMiami Marlins relief pitcher Anthony Bass is "the very likely closer" for the Marlins this season, according to the Miami Herald's Craig Mish. The Marlins were hoping to re-sign Brandon Kintzler, who saved 12 games last season, but he went to the Phillies on a minor league deal. Bass signed a two-year, $5 million deal with the Marlins earlier this offseason after posting a 3.51 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP with Toronto last season, recording seven saves. He doesn't have the typical swing-and-miss stuff that many closers have, but he should be solid enough to carve out some mixed league value if he does indeed win the ninth inning role.
