Angels Discussing Matthew Boyd
5 years agoThe Los Angeles Angels have discussed a potential trade for Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matthew Boyd, and Angels outfield prospect Brandon Marsh was a name mentioned in dialogue between both teams, according to a source. However, both sides haven't made progress towards a deal at the moment. The Halos are still looking for rotation upgrades and missed out on both Hyun-Jin Ryu and Dallas Keuchel in their search for a southpaw. Boyd went 9-12 with a 4.56 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 238 strikeouts in 185 1/3 innings (32 starts) for Detroit last year. The strikeout upside is nice and Boyd would be in a better position for wins in Anaheim. Marsh, 22, is the team's No. 2 prospect behind Jo Adell. He hit .300/.383/.428 with seven home runs, 43 RBI and 18 steals in 95 games for Double-A Mobile last year. He'd certainly be a candidate to make his big league debut with the rebuilding Tigers if he was sent to Detroit.
