Angels Activate Jose Quintana
4 years agoThe Los Angeles Angels activated left-hander Jose Quintana (shoulder) from the injured list on Monday and optioned pitchers Chris Rodriguez to Double-A and Jaime Barria to Triple-A in corresponding moves. Quintana was expected to go on a rehab assignment, but that turns out not to be the case. The 32-year-old veteran southpaw has been on the shelf since May 31. Because he didn't go on a rehab assignment, we'd expect the Angels to ease him back into the starting rotation and build up his stamina by using him out of the bullpen initially. Quintana hasn't been very useful in fantasy in nine starts this year, posting a 7.22 ERA and 1.93 WHIP while striking out 50 and walking 26 in 33 2/3 innings. Until he's back in the starting rotation, he won't be worth considering as a streamer in AL-only leagues.

Jose Quintana Agrees To One-Year Deal With Brewers
4 weeks agoFree-agent left-hander Jose Quintana agreed to an one-year deal worth $4-5 million with the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday, sources told Francys Romero. Quintana gives the Brewers a left-handed option for their starting rotation in 2025, although it's unclear if he'll be built up enough to start the year in the Opening Day rotation. The 36-year-old veteran Colombian has 13 years of major-league experience and went 10-10 with a 3.75 ERA (4.56 FIP), 1.25 WHIP, 135 strikeouts and 63 walks in 170 1/3 innings over 31 starts in 2024 while with the New York Mets. It was his biggest workload in a season since 2019. Although it was Quintana's third straight season with an ERA below 4.00, he was helped by a .263 BABIP and 78.2 percent strand rate. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect a repeat, and Quintana's low strikeout rate gives him little upside.

Mets, Jose Quintana Discussing Reunion
1 month agoAccording to Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated, left-handed pitcher Jose Quintana and the New York Mets have been talking and shown mutual interest in a reunion. Earlier this week, right-handed pitcher Franke Montas (lat) was shut down from throwing. Montas is not expected to begin throwing in at least four weeks. As a result, Quintana could be a potential target for the Mets to provide some depth in their rotation. The southpaw has spent the past two seasons with the Mets. Last summer, Quintana posted a 3.75 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP across 170 1/3 innings of work. He tallied just 135 strikeouts but was able to generate ground balls at a strong 48.2 percent rate. If Quintana were to return to Queens, he would compete for a spot in the back of the rotation alongside Tylor Megill and Griffin Canning.

Jose Quintana To Start Game 4 Against Dodgers
6 months agoNew York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza confirmed on Tuesday that veteran left-hander Jose Quintana will make the start in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series on Thursday at Citi Field against the Los Angeles Dodgers. After Quintana, nothing is official, but right-hander Kodai Senga is the most logical candidate to start Game 5 after he got the nod in Game 1 on Sunday. In two starts this postseason against the Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies, Quintana has been lights-out for the Mets, allowing one run (zero earned) on six hits while walking three and fanning 11 in 11 innings. The 35-year-old southpaw also allowed only two earned runs in his four starts in September. In his lone start against LA in 2024 in New York back on May 28, Quintana had a quality start, giving up three earned runs with no walks and three K's in six innings of work.

Jose Quintana Stymies Phillies, Strikes Out Six In Victory
6 months agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jose Quintana quieted the Phillies' bats for five innings in Wednesday's 4-1 victory, allowing one unearned run on just two hits and two walks while striking out six batters in the NLDS series-clinching win. The southpaw appeared in the sixth but a leadoff double to Bryce Harper ended his outing. The 35-year-old has been masterful over his last eight starts, including his two postseason starts, allowing a total of three earned runs in 47 1/3 innings (0.57 ERA), so he has been a big reason the Mets have been rolling. Quintana's next start will come in the NLCS against either the Dodgers or the Padres, both of whom he's faced this season (Padres twice, Dodgers once) and logged a quality start in each of them.
