Andrew Velasquez Re-Signed By Braves
12 months agoThe Atlanta Braves have re-signed shortstop Andrew Velazquez to a minor-league contract roughly three weeks after outrighting him off the 40-man roster. The 29-year-old spent much of the last two seasons in the Angels' organization but was waived and subsequently claimed by the Braves last season. Very much a glove-first shortstop, Velazquez has struggled mightily at the plate in the big leagues as he's a .189 career hitter with 12 home runs and 40 stolen bases across 624 trips to the plate, production that grades out 52% below the league average, as per his 48 wRC+. He will likely serve as Triple-A depth with the club as he did following his waiver claim last season.
