Andrei Svechnikov Goes Second Overall To Hurricanes
6 years agoThe Carolina Hurricanes have drafted 18-year-old forward Andrei Svechnikov with the second overall pick. Svechnikov, a consensus No. 2 pick in this year's draft, scored 40 goals and 72 points in just 44 games with the Barrie Colts, ranking eighth in goals across the OHL despite missing a significant amount of time with a hand injury. His deadly shot and playmaking bring to mind the likes of Vladimir Tarasenko and Alexander Ovechkin, and he is likely to join the Hurricanes as early as the 2018-19 season. Regardless of when he enters the league, expect Svechnikov to eventually join the ranks of the elite Russian NHL players soon.
