Alexander Wells Makes Serviceable Spot Start Wednesday
3 years agoBaltimore Orioles pitcher Alexander Wells had a successful spot start in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Rays. Wells was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk to fill in for Keegan Akin (Covid-19), pitching 5 2/3 innings and allowing three runs on five hits (including two home runs) and two walks with seven strikeouts. The 24-year-old has only pitched 10 1/3 innings with the O's this season and has a 4.35 ERA. It is unknown when Akin will return from the Covid-19 injured list, so Wells could potentially be called upon again to start. In any event, his unknown role with the team limits his fantasy value at this time.
