Alex Wood Expected To Open On Disabled List
6 years agoCincinnati Reds starting pitcher Alex Wood is expected to open the season on the disabled list as he recovers from a sore back that has limited him in spring training. The southpaw had made just one spring start before his back tightened up, and he also had a setback while throwing last week. "It will be mid-April, if everything is perfect," manager David Bell said. Tyler Mahle, who was one of five rookies on the Opening Day roster last year, is the likely rotation replacement for Wood to open the year. Wood's move from LA to Cincy was already a downgrade for his fantasy value, and now owners will have to be without him for a few weeks to open the season. The left-hander can be effective in mixed leagues, but we'd only consider him late in deep mixed affairs.
