Alex Lange To Have Surgery Next Week, Could Miss Rest Of The Season

Detroit Tigers right-handed reliever Alex Lange (lat) is going to need surgery for a right-lat avulsion, which is scheduled for early next week. The Tigers aren't putting a timetable on Lange's recovery, but his season is now likely over. The 28-year-old suffered the injury while pitching for Triple-A Toledo last Friday and will now be out for the foreseeable future. He opened the year as one of the favorites for saves in Detroit's bullpen, but a poor start to the year led to a demotion to the minors in May. Lange produced a 4.34 ERA, a 1.77 WHIP, two saves, 21 strikeouts and 17 walks in 18 2/3 innings out of the bullpen in Detroit earlier this year. It's been a hard fall for Lange after he recorded a season-high 26 saves for the Tigers in 2023. If he wasn't already, he can be dropped in all single-year fantasy leagues. For the time being, Jason Foley is Detroit's closer at the major-league level.
