7 years agoTampa Bay Rays closer Alex Colome will be used for three-out or fewer saves more often in 2018. He was asked to record multiple-inning saves in 2017, where he led the American League with six of those saves. Colome recorded an MLB-leading 47 saves in 2017, but his overall numbers elsewhere weren't as impressive as his 2016 campaign. His strikeout and walk rates both went in the wrong direction, and his ERA jumped up more than a full run to 3.24 from 1.90 in 2016. He could still be traded before the season ends, though, and is making a modest $5.3 million this season. He should be owned in most leagues where saves is its own category.--Jamie Mellor
