Alex Cobb Still Feeling Soreness In Shoulder, Will See Doctor
Alex Cobb (hip, shoulder) has been held back from throwing activities the last few days as he's still experiencing soreness in his shoulder. He is scheduled to see Dr. Ken Akizuki Friday night. Cobb had been working his way back from a hip surgery he had in October and started to experience some setbacks after throwing a bullpen session a few weeks ago. The 36-year-old won't be eligible to come off the injured list until late May, but these setbacks may push his return further into June. This isn't the news the Giants wanted to hear after needing to put newly acquired Blake Snell on the 15-day injured list this week. Cobb will have a rotation spot available for him when he returns, but fantasy managers and Giants fans will need to exercise patience for a couple more months for that moment.

Alex Cobb Throws Bullpen Session
Alex Cobb (hip) completed a bullpen session on Tuesday, according to MLive's Evan Woodbery. It's been a long road to recovery for the oft-injured Cobb, who dealt with inflammation in his right hip back in spring training. The 37-year-old veteran began the 2025 season on the injured list as a result and has yet to even begin a minor-league rehab assignment, which means we probably won't see him back in the big leagues until at least June. There remains no timetable for return, and fantasy managers in mixed leagues can leave him to the waiver wire for the time being. There shouldn't be much expectation for Cobb when he's healthy enough to pitch again in the big leagues, as he was limited to three starts in 2024 due to hip, finger and shoulder injuries. It remains to be seen if he'll even have a rotation spot waiting for him when he's past his current hip ailment.

Alex Cobb Set For Live Batting Practice
Alex Cobb (hip) is scheduled to throw live batting practice at Comerica Park early next week. The 37-year-old missed all of spring training due to right hip inflammation. Cobb dealt with injuries last season, limited to just 16.1 innings pitched over August and September. Unfortunately, injuries have already hampered him once again, but it appears he's turning a corner as he'd only thrown bullpen sessions thus far. It's unclear if the former fourth-round pick will be ready to go when he's first eligible or return to the rotation at all when he's healthy, as injuries have been a concern for him. Despite pitching well during his limited 2024 with the Cleveland Guardians -- holding an ERA of 2.76 -- Cobb held an xERA of 5.01.

Alex Cobb Goes On 15-Day Injured List To Begin The Season
Alex Cobb (hip) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to March 24) due to right-hip inflammation. The oft-injured 37-year-old veteran didn't pitch at all in spring training due to his hip injury, which means he'll probably miss at least the first month of the regular season. However, the good news is that he resumed throwing last week in camp. It remains to be seen if Cobb will even have a starting-rotation spot waiting for him whenever he's finally cleared to come off the IL. Remember, Cobb was only able to make three regular-season starts for the Cleveland Guardians last year due to hip, finger and shoulder injuries. Durability at this stage of his career is a serious question mark, so Cobb might be better served as a long reliever/swing man for Detroit. In addition to injury concerns, Cobb has very little fantasy upside with a below-average strikeout rate.

Alex Cobb To Throw Another Bullpen On Wednesday
Alex Cobb (hip) threw his first bullpen session in camp on Saturday and is scheduled to throw his second bullpen on Wednesday. Cobb was shut down early in spring training after he was diagnosed with right-hip inflammation, but the 37-year-old veteran is ramping back up as he attempts to rejoin the team's starting rotation. Opening Day is next Thursday in L.A. against the World Series-champion Los Angeles Dodgers, though, so Cobb will open the regular season on the injured list and isn't expected to make his 2025 debut until late April or early May. While Cobb will be given a rotation spot in Detroit when he's ready, he's not much of a fantasy asset and has only made 30 starts in a season once. He made just three starts in 2024 due to hip, finger and shoulder injuries and just hasn't been very durable.
