5 years agoThe Arizona Diamondbacks placed catcher Alex Avila (calf) on the 10-day injured list on Friday with a strained left calf and recalled catcher Caleb Joseph from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move. Avila was batting only .220/.410/.508 with five home runs and 11 RBI in 59 at-bats as the primary backup to Carson Kelly in the desert. Joseph will now assume the role of backup in Arizona behind Kelly, who has become an option in two-catcher leagues now at the thinnest of positions. Joseph has three hits in 17 at-bats (.176) this year and can be avoided everywhere.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
