Alec Regula, Michigan Native, Drafted By Red Wings
6 years agoAlec Regula came to the OHL’s London Knights after playing one season with the Chicago Steel of the USHL. For much of his OHL rookie season, he played on a pairing with fellow 2018 draftee Evan Bouchard. Cited as tentative in the early stages, his confidence elevated throughout the season, as did NHL teams' opinions of his game. In 67 games, Regula scored seven goals and added 18 assists with London, but was held pointless in their four postseason games. He is first and foremost a defensive defenseman but has upside at both ends of the ice. At 6-foot-4, 190 pounds he has the makings of a sturdy NHL blueliner, that, should he reach his offensive upside, would fit well in a top-four role. Having just one season under his belt, don’t be surprised if he returns to the Knights, but Detroit is looking to overhaul its defense corps, so he could get the call before long.
