Albert Pujols Looking At Reduced Role In '19
6 years agoLos Angeles Angels first baseman/designated hitter Albert Pujols is trending towards a reduced role in 2019 despite slugging .571 this spring. The 39-year-old future Hall of Famer racked up 465 at-bats last season, slashing only .245/.289/.411 with 19 home runs. Foot injuries have sapped any kind of movement on the bases and his availability at first base is practically non-existent. Pujols will certainly serve a role on the team, especially early on, but will split playing time with Justin Bour and eventually Shohei Ohtani once the latter returns from injury. Pujols has 633 career home runs but it is hard to envision him eclipsing 400 at-bats or reaching 20-plus home runs in his 19th season. Pujols could help a fantasy roster in deep formats during the first month of the season but lacks any kind of appeal beyond that.
