Addison Russell To Start Playing In Minor League Games
6 years agoChicago Cubs suspended shortstop Addison Russell will begin playing in minor league games for a seven-day stint a week from now. "He has been compliant with everything we have asked him to do and then some," general manager Jed Hoyer said. Russell is serving a 40-game suspension for domestic abuse, but there's no guarantee he gets his starting job back when his suspension is up. He hit just .250/.317/.340 with five home runs and 38 RBI in 130 games for the Cubbies last year. If Russell does work his way back into a starting role, it'd be bad news for Daniel Descalso, who has been playing a lot early on. Russell isn't a must-stash in mixed leagues.
