Addison Russell Resumes Baseball Activities
6 years agoChicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell (finger, shoulder), who is dealing with a left middle finger sprain and right shoulder inflammation, played catch on Tuesday. It was his first day of baseball activities since he was shut down on Aug. 20. He said his shoulder is healing faster than his hand, which he has been dealing with all year. Russell has really been struggling most of the year, hitting .259 with only five homers, 37 RBI and four stolen bases. Perhaps his hand injury has been to blame. The Cubs are basically trying to get him fully healthy for a postseason run. With Daniel Murphy now in the mix at second base and Javier Baez moving to shortstop, Russell might be more of a utility bat when he returns.
