Adbert Alzolay Could Make Starts Soon
5 years agoChicago Cubs starting pitching prospect Adbert Alzolay is in the mix to make starts at the big league level soon, especially with Kyle Hendricks (shoulder) possibly out through the All-Star break. Tyler Chatwood will get the first crack at Hendricks' rotation spot this Thursday. “Alzolay is on a real roll at Triple-A, and we’d been planning even before this to possibly give him a couple of spot starts at some point over the next month or so,” president Theo Epstein said. The team's No. 4 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, recently earned Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week honors and has a 1.93 ERA in his last five starts with 40 strikeouts and three walks in 28 innings for Triple-A Iowa. Alzolay might not make more than a handful of starts in 2019, but he's certainly worth considering for a stash in dynasty/keeper leagues if he's available.
