5 years agoKansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (groin) will start his rehab assignment with Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Saturday and is expected to serve as the designated hitter in the first game. Barring any setbacks, Mondesi could return from the injured list at some point next week. The 23-year-old phenom has lived up to the billing in his first full season in the big leagues, hitting .269/.302/.441 with six homers, 40 runs, 44 RBI and 27 stolen bases. There's a lot of swing and miss to his game, which is a bit concerning, but it hasn't really held him back much so far. Nicky Lopez is likely to shift back over to second base whenever Mondesi makes his return to the active roster.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
