Aaron Nola Dominates Cardinals
Aaron Nola had another strong outing Wednesday night pitching seven innings of one-run ball vs the Cardinals. Nola scattered four hits and three walks and struck out eight while improving his record to 6-0. Nola got off to a shaky start this season and his 4.18 ERA isn't quite where fantasy owners expected on draft day. However, Nola has now won three straight games with 26 strikeouts in those starts. His xFIP is down to 3.74 and should have more positive regression coming. His .385 BABIP against should normalize and his 20.4 percent home run to fly ball rate should also come down closer to his career number. He should be started with confidence next time out at the Padres, who possess the fifth worst team wOBA against right-handed pitching.

Aaron Nola Rocked In Loss
Aaron Nola was lit up in Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader in what ended as a 14-7 loss to the Cardinals. He allowed nine runs on nine hits and one walk in 3 2/3 innings. This loss dropped his record to 1-7, continuing an extremely disappointing start to 2025 for the right-hander. This start rose his already poor 4.89 ERA up to 6.16. He'll look to turn things around in his next start, currently set to be against the Rockies at Coors Field.

Aaron Nola Spins Six Scoreless Innings In First Win
Aaron Nola allowed four hits and no runs over six innings pitched in his team's 7-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. He walked one and struck out eight while picking up his first win of the season (1-5). Nola let up six hard-hit balls on Saturday, but he was able to keep the D-Backs off balance, allowing just one extra-base hit (double). The veteran right-hander has rebounded nicely over his last two starts after affording the Giants and Mets ten combined runs over the two starts prior. During the previous 13 innings, he's surrendered just seven hits and one earned run with a 14:2 K:BB ratio and back-to-back quality starts. He'll attempt to keep the good times rolling in his next appearance, which should come on the road against the Cleveland Guardians next weekend.

Aaron Nola Pitches Seven Strong Innings
Aaron Nola didn't factor into the decision on Sunday but was solid in a 3-1 win over the Cubs. He allowed one run on three hits and a walk with six strikeouts in seven innings. This was a step in the right direction for Nola who had lost all five of his starts before this one with a 6.43 ERA and 1.61 WHIP. This start lowered his ERA to 5.40, but he still has plenty of work to do before his stats look more in line with that of a near-ace that many fantasy managers drafted him to be. He'll look to carry this momentum into his next start, tentatively scheduled to be against the Diamondbacks.

Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola Could Be Split Up In Starting Rotation
Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola in the starting rotation this year and also do the same with left-handers Cristopher Sanchez and Jesus Luzardo. It could result in an opening-week rotation of Wheeler, Sanchez, Nola, Luzardo and left-hander Ranger Suarez. In addition, right-hander Joe Ross will be built up as a starter in spring training in case an injury pops up. If the Phillies' top five starters are healthy going into Opening Day, Ross will open up in the bullpen in a relief role. Ross had a 1.67 ERA in 27 innings of relief in 2024 with the Milwaukee Brewers. Thomson said he'd be comfortable using Ross as a multi-inning reliever or in one-inning stints in more high-leverage roles.
