Aaron Altherr Homers Late In Tight Victory
7 years agoMonday’s game between the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves was a close affair for most of the night in a series that will be key in the early battle for the National League East. Phillies outfielder Nick Williams’ fourth-inning home run put the home team ahead early, but the affair remained a tight pitcher's duel when Aaron Altherr stepped up to the plate in the seventh inning. Pinch hitting for starter Nick Pivetta, the 27-year-old drilled a two-run home run to left, driving in Scott Kingery and increasing the lead to 3-0. Altherr’s home run eased some nerves, although the bullpen was still tasked with holding a three-run lead. Fortunately for the Phillies and their fans, they did just that, earning the victory and pulling to half a game out of the division lead.
