49ers Were Planning To Rest Jerick McKinnon
4 years agoSan Francisco 49ers running back Jerick McKinnon had just three carries for negative one yard in Week 7. It was a surprising development as McKinnon was presumed to be the team's primary ball-carrier in the game. Head coach Kyle Shanahan recently shed some light on the situation, saying that the team had planned to rest McKinnon all along due to his heavy workload through the early going of the season. McKinnon has missed the past two seasons and with the team's injuries to Raheem Mostert (ankle) and Tevin Coleman (knee), McKinnon has had to take on a bigger role sooner than the 49ers thought. While this justification might not make fantasy owners who started McKinnon this week feel any better, it should at least provide a bit more clarity. McKinnon may end up being a decent low-end flex play in Week 8 as the team will once again be riddled with running back injuries in the game.
