Welcome back, RotoBallers! It was a great Sunday for me despite the Pirates finding new ways to avoid scoring runs in extra innings. If you thought the new manager would end the circus that is Pittsburgh Pirates fundamental baserunning, you were mistaken! Anyways, a bomb from Aaron Judge in the bottom of the 8th yesterday allowed my mini-parlay to hit, boosting me to 4-2 and +3.99 units yesterday! We'll take some more of that. Unfortunately I don't love any of the moneyline numbers at first glance, but let's see if we can come up with some good value anyway.
As you may already know, Steve Janik and I will be sharing the duties of writing up an MLB Betting article every day of the week! All season long we'll be supplying you MLB betting articles with a few of our favorite picks for the day in baseball. Along with the picks, we'll give a little write-up with some supporting evidence for the picks, and we'll keep track of our records throughout the course of the season. You can always find my updated picks for the day as well as my running tally @BellRoto on Twitter. I'll also do my best to continue posting my picks there on my "Off Days" for this series.
- Sunday, August 2: 4-2
- 2020 Season Total: 26-23
Without further ado, let's get to the picks for today's slate. Please make sure to follow me on Twitter @BellRoto, as I'll post any updates and/or additions to these picks there throughout the day. I'll also field any questions or comments on Twitter as well as in our Premium RotoBaller Slack Chat under the Sports Betting channel. Here we go!

New York Mets (-130) at Atlanta Braves
O/U: 8
NYM: Jacob deGrom, ATL: Mike Soroka
This one doesn't need much explanation. We have two aces in every sense of the word, and the Mets offense is in a tailspin, which I can't see getting any better with the sudden departure of Yoenis Cespedes on Sunday. I see both deGrom and Soroka going 7+ innings in this one, and a 2-1 finish seems more likely than ever. The only real threat would be Atlanta scoring late off the Mets bullpen, but I'll take my chances with that.
Pick: Total Under 7.5 (+107) 2 Units
Oakland Athletics (-190) at Seattle Mariners
O/U: 9
OAK: Frankie Montas, SEA: Justus Sheffield
It hasn't all clicked quite yet, but it's been good to see Frankie Montas pick back up where he left off as one of the top prospects in the league. He should get a nice chance to showcase his skillset against a rather weak Mariners lineup. Meanwhile Justus Sheffield has yet to find his groove in the bigs, struggling to be efficient with his pitch counts. I think the potent As bats capitalize on his mistakes, and Montas throws a quality start en route to a relatively easy Oakland win. I'm going to knock this ML number down with a -1.5 bet.
Pick: Athletics -1.5 (-119) 1 Unit
Los Angeles Dodgers (-130) at San Diego Padres
O/U: 8
LAD: Walker Buehler, SD: Chris Paddack
Don't get me wrong, I love me some Chris Paddack. I think he's going to be a special pitcher for quite some time. However, the upside for Chris Paddack this year is what we saw from Walker Buehler in 2019. That being said, edge to Dodgers for pitching matchup. Take into account that the Dodgers trust Buehler to pitch deep into the game more than the Padres will trust Paddack, and that gives them another edge. I also like the depth for the Dodgers' lineup considerably more, so that's enough for me to throw -130 on this team. Should be a fun pitching matchup, but I think LA is able to barrel up a few more balls in the end, and wins by a run or two.
Pick: Dodgers ML (-130) 1 Unit
