Today's MLB Betting Picks - Blue Jays @ Astros
O/U: 9 | Moneyline: HOU -142
TOR: Chris Bassitt | HOU: Cristian Javier
The Toronto Blue Jays snatched victory from the jaws of defeat on Wednesday when Davis Schneider clubbed a two-run homer off of Astros closer Josh Hader in the ninth inning, earning his team a 2-1 win in the process. It was a low-scoring affair as both Jose Berrios and Framber Valdez were on their game and we should be looking for something similar with Chris Bassitt and Cristian Javier on the mound Wednesday.
For Javier, he endured a down 2023 season that saw him post a 4.56 ERA in 31 starts, surprisingly worse than his 2.54 mark from the 2022 season. However, he got some revenge with six shutout innings over the Yankees to kick off his 2023 campaign, striking out six against just one walk in that one.

As for Bassitt, the veteran right-hander didn't fare so well in his season opener, tossing five innings of four-run ball with six strikeouts against two walks against the Rays. At the same time, he's been about as reliable as it gets over the course of his career, tossing a 3.51 ERA in 170 MLB appearances, including a 3.60 ERA across a career-high 33 starts in the 2023 season, his first with Toronto.
Of course, both of these offenses boast plenty of thump. However, we have a couple of sound right-handers toeing the rubber in this one and an elevated total on our hands. We'll lean towards the under on Wednesday.
Pick: Under 9 total runs (-120, DraftKings Sportsbook)

Today's MLB Betting Picks - Giants @ Dodgers
O/U: 8.5 | Moneyline: Dodgers -225
SF: Kyle Harrison | LAD: Tyler Glasnow
Giants rookie Kyle Harrison sure has a strong litmus test on his hands Wednesday as he dabbles into the Giants/Dodgers rivalry.
The 22-year-old handled himself well in seven starts with the big club in the 2023 season, tossing a 4.15 ERA in that time. However, he also posted a 5.53 FIP and a tiny 26.8% ground-ball rate, leading to a bloated 2.08 HR/9 clip. He didn't fare any better at Triple-A where he posted a 4.66 ERA in 20 starts. He did, however, work six innings while allowing just two earned runs in his 2024 season debut, although he still yielded two home runs.
In case you haven't noticed, this Dodgers offense certainly can play some long ball. Sure, they've played at least two more games than anyone else but they have an MLB-best 12 homers on the season to go along with a .293 team average and .377 wOBA. This is just a miserable matchup for the young Harrison.
The Dodgers made plenty of noise this winter, some of which was created when they landed right-hander Tyler Glasnow in a trade from the Rays. He hasn't disappointed with 11 innings of three-run ball (2.45 ERA) through two starts with his new team, even if he has walked five against only eight strikeouts in that time.
Let's not overthink this one. The Dodgers have the superior offense and the superior starting pitcher going in this one. It's not always that simple, but this is one the Dodgers should be able to handle with ease.
Pick: Dodgers run line -1.5 (-108, DraftKings Sportsbook)
