Suddenly, it's college basketball season. Here we are, still with football on the brain, and we find ourselves already two or three games into the hoops season.
What to do? Well, get down to business for one thing.
So, here are our first CBB rankings for the 2017-18 season, as of November 15, 2017 (won-loss records in parentheses).
NCAA College Basketball (CBB) Rankings
1. Duke, (3-0)
Like most right-minded Americans, we hate Duke. But it's hard not to love a player like Grayson Allen-- at least on the court, where he's averaging 25.7 PPG.
2. Arizona, (2-0)
No, the Wildcats haven't played anyone yet, and they arguably won't until the face off against NC State next week. But we're confident Allonzo Trier (31.0 PPG) and the 'Cats will win far more often than not, and we like them to be there in March, too.
3. Kansas, (2-0)
The Jayhawks in the top 10? What else is new? Bill Self's team has already beaten Kentucky, and they have a balanced scoring attack that, so far anyway, is being led by Lagerald Vick (16.0 PPG/4.0 APG).
4. Villanova, (2-0)
We've been guilty of underestimating the Big East's Wildcats in recent seasons; we won't make that mistake this time around. Jalen Brunson (15.5 PPG/4.5 APG) is back and he has an outstanding supporting cast.
5. Wichita State, (2-0)
Regular readers know we like mid-majors, so we're keeping the Shockers here even though we know they haven't been tested yet. That will change on Nov. 20, when they play Cal. At 6-8, 279 lbs., center Shaquille Morris is a beast and he's playing like one (17.5 PPG/7.0 RPG).
6. North Carolina, (1-0)
A Top 10 without North Carolina would be like a class without assignments. Ooops.
7. USC, (2-0)
Normally, it's the Trojans' LA rivals UCLA that appear near the top of the rankings. But, the Bruins are rebuilding and, apparently, shoplifting. Allegedly. For now, USC's Bennie Boatwright (20.5 PPG/7.0 RPG) is stealing the headlines.
8. Miami, (2-0)
So far, the Hurricanes have made it look easy, and the roster features a number of weapons. Keep an eye on Ebuka Izundu (13.5 PPG/7.0 RPG).
9. Cincinnati, (2-0)
Is Cincy a mid-major? Are the Bearcats a top team? The former is debatable. The latter is, too, until they face inter-city rivals Xavier in a couple of weeks.
10. Purdue (3-0)
With Kentucky struggling, we'll take the Boilermakers, please, and keep 'em coming. Guard Carsen Edwards (18.7 PPG) can score it.
